URGENT ACTION NEEDED TO PROTECT YOUR DWP PENSION
Dear Local 18 Members,
THIS IS A CRITICAL CALL-TO-ACTION FOR ALL IBEW LOCAL 18 MEMBERS AND RETIREES!
I have learned that the Mayor and City Council are planning to put your pension at risk. They plan to transfer more than 1,000 City employees to the DWP and then allow these employees to take a pension from LACERS while working at the DWP.
This reckless decision could drain tens of millions from the Water and Power Employees Retirement System, putting your benefits at risk. We need to fight back and fight for your pensions.
The City is prepared to take this action without consulting our retirees, without collective bargaining, and in violation of the City Charter. The result would be extreme “double dipping” and harm to the Water and Power Employees Retirement System. It’s a slap in the face to every DWP worker who gave decades of service and expected the City to uphold its promises.
We are taking action! Last year, IBEW Local 18 filed a lawsuit and filed unfair labor practice charges. Now, we must make sure the Mayor and the Council hear from YOU.
We urge you to click here and send a letter to Mayor Karen Bass and the Los Angeles City Council. Tell them to STOP the double-dipping. Tell them to RESPECT the Charter and HONOR your service.
This isn’t just a legal fight. It’s about fairness. It’s about protecting what you’ve earned. And it’s about stopping an outrageous abuse of taxpayer and ratepayer money.
Let’s stand together and make our voices heard.
