Fifth Annual Shop Stewards’ Injured Worker Fund Golf Tournament

By Barry Poole

This year’s tournament, held at the Brookside Golf Course, was a huge success. Eighteen teams, with 70 players, participated in the fun. We had an excellent meal at the end of the tournament, raffled off prizes, and gave away door prizes to people who played in the tournament.

Brothers Mike Purkey, Tom Diaz, Terry Reading and Tim Landis won prizes for low scores. A commemorative IBEW Local 18 custom-made putter, donated by Dr. Ron Holman, was given to the senior IBEW member who played in the tournament. This year, the putter went to Brother Terry Rappleye, who has 37 years of IBEW service!

Very special thanks go to every tournament contributor, including: Dr. Ron Holman, who contributed the three-day, two-night Las Vegas condo, along with cash; Fickewirth & Associates; Fensten, Gelber, Reyna and Martinez; UBS Financial Services; the Vision Service Plan; the Benefit Service Center, and Miller, Kaplan, Arase & Co., all of whom generously donated funding.

Terry Rappleye donated the $150 that he won on the 50/50 hole to the Injured Workers’ Fund. Thanks, Terry, for your heart-felt contribution!

Thanks to the volunteers who worked at the tournament this year: Cindy Coffin; Judy Litowitz, and Ellen Schneider.

The proceeds from this tournament and the raffle go to a very worthy cause, the Shop Stewards’ Injured Worker Fund. Thanks to everyone who participated! Hopefully, we will get even more players to participate in next year’s tournament, and have as great a time as we did this year.
