Gov. Davis Names Local 18 President Miramontes
To Independent System Operator Governing Board

Governor Gray Davis has appointed Local 18 President Frank Miramontes to the Governing Board of Directors of the state’s Independent System Operator (ISO).

The September 10 appointment of Brother Miramontes ensures that there will be a strong and active voice for working people and families on the board that oversees this important system. The ISO runs the State of California’s real-time power market. The system is responsible for balancing the supply and demand for electrical power on the statewide grid. The ISO ensures fair and impartial access to the power-transmission system for all energy generators, and also supervises and maintain reliable operation of the grid.

Brother Miramontes, a member of IBEW Local 18 since 1976, has worked for the Department of Water and Power for more than 30 years, specializing in the field of electrical-generation. Currently, he is co-administrator of the DWP-Local 18 Joint Training Institute.

The five-person ISO Governing Board members do not receive a salary and must be confirmed by the State Senate.

Congratulations to President Frank Miramontes on this singular appointment and this recognition of his career of service to the power industry, our Union and the people of Los Angeles!
