Half-Time Civil Service

For several months, the Surge has printed various articles and status updates concerning Half-Time Civil Service. A Civil Service half-time employee is defined as someone working a minimum of 20 hours per week, with limited benefits. The Department of Water and Power and Local 18 have agreed on a Letter of Agreement that provides for half-time employment, which includes half of the benefits given to full-time employees. Please note that it is not the intent of this Letter to replace one full-time employee with two half-time workers. Currently, the DWP classifications that are affected are Customer Service Representative and Clerk. Please keep an eye out for further information about this matter in further issues of the Surge.

Retiree’s Corner

Once again, we had a fantastic speaker at our September 10 club luncheon meeting! Ms. Janet Howell of the Los Angeles City Department of Aging gave an energetic speech in which she discussed a wide range of programs for seniors. She also provided many handouts. A spirited Q & A session followed. Attendees enjoyed very good food and, once again, gained valuable, practical information for their use. We offer Ms. Howell a very special thank you from every club member.
