A Voice for LA Working Families
That was the theme of the Oct. 9 convocation and rally that opened the AFL-CIO national convention. Some 9000 working people gathered at the LA Convention Center to hear such dignitaries as AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Governor Gray Davis and the Rev. Jesse Jackson. IBEW International President J. J. Barry stopped by the Local 18 booth to meet with members and staff (above). “What was most impressive was the spirit of solidarity and commitment to the union struggle,” Local 18 Business Rep Reuben Espinosa said. “It was inspiring to be in the middle of it.”
