Pat yourselves on the back! by Local 18 President Frank Miramontes It was really good to see the membership pull together for the Retirement Board election. The resounding victory, with each of our candidates winning by more than 500 votes, was a clear indication that we were paying attention and voiced our opinion through the ballot box. Now that the election is behind us, we need to get back on target to organize and put in place worker safety groups. Over 90 per cent of all business units have worker safety groups in place with at least some members who have attended Worker Safety Group workshops and are prepared to vigorously pursue front-line worker safety issues. Also, we hope to move forward with our proposal for a Joint Labor/Management Safety Trust Institute to put safety training and practices on a secure permanent footing. |
