SHOP STEWARDS and all members should remember that newly-hired employees can and should join the union right away. Now there is an additional incentive for them to join, and you should be aware of it so you can pass this information along. The Department recently changed its enrollment subsidy plan so that new employees get health coverage sooner. By far the best health care plan available is HealthNet, but this option is not available without Union membership. Please make sure any new employees in your workplace understand this important benefit.
