Retirement Board report

by Dan Mirisola, Retirement Board President

The new Retirement Board members attended two educational seminars, one in June and another in July. These are extremely informative. They give us the opportunity to meet with our counterparts in other utilities and to hear a variety of interesting and important presentations. They help us get the knowledge and ideas we need to do the best possible job as your representatives on the Board.

The full Board meets the third Thursday of every month at 8:30. All other weeks, the investment committee meets with the three plan advisors, who keep us updated on how our investments are performing and discuss possible investment options and strategies.

We have been working on a plan to provide members with access to their benefits information via the internet as well the Department’s intranet.

Lastly, we are happy to report that we have been able to catch up on all previous minutes, which are now approved and present in the record. Sloppy practices in past years had left substantial gaps, which have now been closed. In the near future we hope to have a Retirement Board newsletter, either in hard copy or on line, which will include the minutes of our regular meeting. We feel that this will go far to ending the culture of secrecy that has surrounded the Retirement Board in the past, and to be sure that its proceedings will be open and responsive to the members we serve.
