Local 18 is at cutting edge with ergonomics training

Local 18 has been vigorously pursuing ergonomics training as an important safety issue. A recent proposal from OSHA shows that we have been on the cutting edge and that the mainstream is catching up with us.

Here is how the AFL-CIO describes the historic proposal:

“On November 22, 1999, after nearly a decade long fight, federal OSHA issued its proposed ergonomics standard. The proposed standard is a major step forward in the effort to protect workers from crippling workplace injuries. It is particularly significant given the all out vicious campaign by business groups to stop the rule. Once finalized it will be the most important worker safety and health protection of this decade.”

Workplace safety is always among our fundamental concerns. Because so much work is done in front of a computer, it is imperative that the design of the workplace reflects this concern.
