Review Your Personal Benefit Statement

Recently, Department of Water and Power employees were mailed a Personal Benefit Statement. Although it is not a legal document, most employees use it as a tool in preparing for their financial future. We strongly encourage you to read over your statements very carefully. If you spot any inconsistencies in this document, do not hesitate to raise questions with the appropriate people.

Shop Stewards Conference

By now, all Local 18 Shop Stewards should have received their invitation to the Second Annual Shop Steward Conference, set for Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7. Please remember that the last day to RSVP is Friday, May 9. Call the Union office (213/387-8274) for reservations.

Open Enrollment!

Open enrollment ends Monday, May 12. This is your opportunity to make changes to your health plan. For information about Local 18-sponsored health plans, contact the Benefits Service Center at 800/842-6635.

Did You Know?

In the last national election, 70% of union members/households voted. That’s the good news. The bad news is that there are still five million unregistered union families in the country. A poll taken among union members showed conclusively that people respond to people who are much like themselves; in other words, union members respond to voting advice from other members! Voter registration is imperative; it is the cornerstone of our political strength. As Jerry O’Connor notes, “It makes no sense to blow your bugle without an army.”
