If You Are Planning to Move....

If you plan to move anytime in the near future, please remember to update your new information (address, zip, telephone number) with the Local 18 office (213/387-8274). We often send general information by mail, including updates on your benefits, meeting announcements, and important reminders.

Re-registering to Vote

If you are moving, please remember that you must re-register to vote! The recent municipal elections once again proved how important it is for union members and families to vote for the labor-endorsed candidates (see Business Manager’s Report). Voter registration forms can be obtained at any United States Post Office or County or City Public Library. If, after moving, you are residing in Los Angeles County, you can get voter registration forms at the Union office.

IBEW Local 18’s Retirees’ Club Luncheon

The IBEW Local 18 Retirees’ Club held its first luncheon of 2003, on Wednesday, March 12. Our former co-workers heard informative (and alarming!) remarks from guest speaker Ernie Powell, a legislative representative from the American Association of Retired People (AARP).

Mr. Powell gave the members a sobering and illuminating speech about the current status of the Social Security System, as well as an explanation and projection of key economic trends in this country. In addition, he discussed a number of political issues, focusing on matters of concern to our growing senior population.

His presentation was very well received, and following his remarks and some questions, many of our Club members signed up for the AARP mailing list in order to receive relevant updated news and information.
