Jim Barham is New JSI AdministratorBrother Jim Barham describes his recent switch in positions and recent
committee experiences: "During the last two years, I have had the privilege of serving as the administrator of the Joint Labor-Management Committees (JLMC). These important committees form the backbone of the Joint Labor-Management progress that supports both the JSI and JTI. These committee have helped contribute some notable accomplishments that have benefited both Local 18 members and the Department of Water & Power. "In the two years I was administrator, the committees tackled everything from alternative work schedules, the Safety Tools and Equipment policy (that was just released in November), and the Prescription Safety Glasses benefit, to the revision of numerous Operating Orders. Included in this work, among several others, was the revision of Operating Order #2 and the creation of the new Grounding Operating Order #3. "Brother Dave Huff will take my place as JLMC administrator, and I am confident that the committees will be in very good hands. Brother Huff has "huge heart" and thoroughly understands the JLMC process, how it works, and what we hope to gain from it. "The Joint Safety Institute has been created to work for and ensure a safe and healthy workplace environment for every Department of Water & Power employee. There simply cannot be a more personally important priority than safety on the job. The JSI is part of a trust put together by labor-management funding that is earmarked for any and all safety-related considerations. "I look forward to serving the brothers and sisters of Local 18 in my new role as administrator of the Joint Safety Institute. I will work closely with the JLMCs, all the Local 18 business reps, you, the members of our Union, Department Safety and the Business Unit Safety Directors." |
